Even though it’s an entry-level medical aid plan, you get hospital and day-to-day cover and chronic illness benefits when you use the network providers.

The Ingwe Option provides affordable access to entry-level hospital cover with no overall annual limit. You can save on your contribution depending on your choice of provider:

Chronic and Day-to-day Benefits

For chronic treatment and Day-to-day Benefits, such as GP visits or prescribed medicine, you need to use:

Health Platform Benefits

Health Platform Benefits are only available from your chosen Primary Care Network provider, except for health assessments, maternity programme benefits and baby immunisations, which are available at any healthcare provider. If you choose the Connect Network, you can access Health Platform benefits from any provider.

What does the Ingwe Option cover?

This benefit covers hospitalisation and some out-of-hospital procedures or treatments that can be safely performed in a doctor's room, registered day hospital, or out-patient facility.

  • Hospital accounts are covered in full at the rate agreed upon with the hospital group.
  • Accounts for specialists are covered up to 100% of the Momentum Medical Scheme Rate.

No annual limit applies.
Caesarean section
Emergency caesareans are covered.
Neonatal intensive care
No annual limit applies.
Organ transplant
If you choose Connect Network hospitals, benefits are limited to Prescribed Minimum Benefits at Connect Network hospitals. If you choose Ingwe Network hospitals or Any hospital, benefits are limited to Prescribed Minimum Benefits* at State facilities.
MRI and CT scans, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, whole body radioisotope and PET scans.
If you choose Connect Network hospitals, MRI and CT scans are limited to Prescribed Minimum Benefits* at Connect Network hospitals and other specialised scans are subject to Prescribed Minimum Benefits at State facilities. If you choose Ingwe Network hospitals or Any hospital, all scans are limited to Prescribed Minimum Benefits at State facilities.
Medical rehabilitation and step-down facilities
Limited to R16 700 per beneficiary every year.
Health management programmes for conditions such as HIV/Aids
Your doctor needs to register you on the appropriate health management programme.
Immune deficiency related to HIV
  • Anti-retroviral treatment: R40 500 per family at preferred provider.
  • HIV-related hospital admissions: R41 000 per family at your chosen hospital provider.
Emergency medical transport in South Africa by Netcare 911

Dentistry
  • 1 consultation per beneficiary every year, plus extractions, fillings, and x-rays.
  • Specialised dentistry, such as braces, is not covered by the Scheme.
Medicine
Prescribed medication is subject to a list of medicine . referred to as the prescribed formulary.
Mental health
Limited to Prescribed Minimum Benefits* at State facilities.
Specialist visits
  • 2 visits per family every year.
  • Limited to R1 350 per visit and up to a maximum of R2 700 per family per year.
  • Covered at 100% of the Momentum Medical Scheme Rate.

  • pap smears,
  • dental consultations,
  • general physical examinations,
  • prostate specific antigens,
  • health assessments,
  • cholesterol tests,
  • blood sugar tests,
  • HIV tests, and other tests.
Maternity programme
7 antenatal visits which include:
  • a urine test,
  • certain antenatal pathology tests,
  • 1 paediatrician visit in baby's 1st year,
  • 2 pregnancy scans, and
  • a nurse home visit after returning home from the hospital.
